Why Epos Now Is Best for Ease of Use

Epos Now’s POS system is suitable for any business, but it’s ideal for hospitality and retail companies. Thanks to its usability, we found it particularly useful for very small businesses looking for a platform that requires minimal training.

While its robust features and advanced reporting functionality can help businesses streamline operations, the software’s ease of use truly sets it apart from other POS providers. You can have the platform up and running in no time and train your staff in minutes — a particularly handy quality in small businesses with high turnover.

We were also impressed that Epos Now’s software integrates with third-party hardware. Businesses can buy the hardware they need from Epos Now or use their existing devices — an excellent option for companies looking to cut business expenses

Additionally, Epos Now adds to its ease of use with payment processing flexibility. We like that you can set up your credit card processing through Epos Now or use a third-party payment processor. Streamlining the search for a processor by partnering with Epos Now can help new businesses get up and running faster with less hassle.

Epos Now allows businesses to use its in-house payment processing, but they can choose from many of the best credit card processors if they prefer to work with a third party.

Usability

Usability is a crucial POS system feature because complicated interfaces are challenging to implement. Epos Now’s software is designed for growing businesses and is incredibly straightforward to use. It allows you to track inventory, streamline operations and manage employees easily. New and very small businesses can get started with the system and, as they grow, adjust it to suit their evolving needs.

We also like that you can access your data from any device or location — a major perk if you manage multiple business locations. We appreciate that businesses can use the software with any third-party hardware, which helps save on upfront costs. If you need more hardware later, you always have the option to purchase it from Epos Now.

Epos Now Features

Use the software to track inventory and reorder items as needed.

Customer management

Gather data about your customers and set up customer loyalty programs.

Employee management

Manage and track your employees’ schedules.

Reporting

Advanced reporting features let you track revenue and see your top-performing employees.

Integrations

The platform integrates with hundreds of third-party apps.

Inventory Management

Inventory management can be a time-consuming and expensive task for many retailers. Fortunately, Epos Now offers various POS inventory management features to help you organize products by size and color, track each item’s performance and see where you’re running low.

If you run a restaurant, you can track inventory at the ingredient level. You’ll receive alerts whenever an item is running low, so you’ll never run out of essential inventory items.

Epos Now’s inventory management tools are especially helpful for businesses that are just starting out or that are expanding into a new market and need to identify what their top selling items are. Understanding which items you need to restock often and which you don’t can help you spend more wisely, reducing waste and bolstering cash flow.

TipTip
While Epos Now has restaurant-specific features like ingredient-level inventory management, check out our review of TouchBistro and our Toast review if you're looking for a more focused restaurant POS system.

Customer Management

Understanding your customers is crucial to running a successful business. Epos Now’s customer management software lets you build customer profiles, set up customer loyalty programs and create special promotions for your customers. Customer loyalty programs are especially important for new businesses trying to build a following or very small businesses that rely on repeat customers to remain competitive. They’re also useful when a business expands into a new market and needs to engage a new target audience.

You can also offer branded loyalty cards, gift cards and store credit to build customer loyalty and give people another reason to shop with you. Use the data you gather to create personalized marketing campaigns to attract new customers to your business.

TipTip
Epos Now connects to many leading customer relationship management (CRM) tools. If you're in the market for a CRM solution, check out our reviews of the best CRM software to help you track all customer interactions.

Employee Management

Epos Now’s employee management tools are comparable to those of other providers we reviewed. Its software lets you monitor employees and see which staff members process the most transactions.

We like that the built-in time clock shows you when employees clock in and out for their shifts, which can help improve payroll accuracy. You’ll also receive insights into your busiest hours, helping you create a more accurate schedule for your company. These insights will help you avoid over or understaffing your business.

Reporting

We were pleased to see that Epos Now’s software allows you to create various POS reports to show you how your business is performing. You’ll get a revenue overview and see which items are selling well and which you might consider eliminating.

We like that you can compare sales against your actual inventory. If you want more information, you can customize your POS sales reports further to identify trends and pinpoint your highest-performing staff members.

Integrations

Epos Now truly shines when it comes to integrations — its offerings are more robust than those of many competitors we reviewed. The Epos Now AppStore provides access to hundreds of third-party app integrations, allowing you to create a customized solution for your business.

Many businesses will appreciate Epos Now’s QuickBooks POS integration and integrations with many of the best accounting software solutions. The platform also integrates with popular marketing, accounting and workforce management apps, including the following:

  • Mailchimp
  • Sage
  • Shopify
  • Wix
  • EVO Payments

Epos Now Costs

We were pleased that Epos Now offers prospective customers a free 30-day trial — a more generous trial than many POS providers offer. If you like the software and want to continue using it, your plan’s exact costs will depend on your business type and other factors.

However, Epos Now isn’t transparent about its software pricing. We found it hard to determine precisely how much the average business would pay monthly for services. In comparison, many competitors list these costs clearly on their websites.

Payment processing and hardware costs are additional considerations:

  • Payment processing costs: Regarding credit card processing fees, if you use Epos Now as your payment provider, you’ll pay a flat rate of 2.6 percent plus 10 cents per transaction. However, the company offers custom payment processing rates for larger restaurants and retail stores. Your business can use Epos Now Payments to accept credit cards and debit cards as well as mobile wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay.
  • Hardware costs: You can purchase hardware from Epos Now individually or bundled. The standard Epos Now POS system starts at $1,099 but discounts could bring this price down to $299. The system comes with a countertop POS terminal, secure cash drawer and built-in receipt printer.

Epos Now Setup

We love that setting up your POS system with Epos Now is seamless and straightforward. Business owners should have no trouble setting up the software and training employees. To get the most out of the system, you’ll need to assign roles and train employees on using its various functions.

If you purchase Epos Now’s paid support plan, you’ll receive one-on-one onboarding from an Epos Now employee. This is a good way to ensure you understand and get the most out of the software.

Epos Now Customer Service

Epos Now gives you the option to pay for one-on-one onboarding but many competing POS providers we reviewed offer this service for free. While we like that Epos Now offers ongoing customer support by phone, email and live chat, we were disappointed to learn that only premium customers receive 24/7 customer support. Other competitors we reviewed had more generous customer support terms.

We appreciate that Epos Now has a blog with helpful articles on running a business. However, its online resources aren’t as comprehensive as those of other companies.

Epos Now Drawbacks

Epos Now is an excellent POS provider, but it does have some drawbacks.

  • Lack of transparent pricing: The biggest downside to Epos Now is the lack of transparency around pricing. It’s hard to get a sense of what you’ll pay by looking at the company’s website and the only way to get a quote is to contact customer service. If you prefer transparent pricing when researching POS monthly and annual plans, check out our review of Lightspeed. (However, you must call the company about its POS hardware pricing.)
  • Paid support: If you become an Epos Now customer, you must pay for ongoing customer support, a service many POS providers offer for free. If you’d like more generous customer support, check out our review of Clover. This provider has excellent help resources and a unique customer support callback feature.

Methodology

When researching the best POS systems for ease of use, we focused on usability, intuitive design, integrations and customization options. We also compared Epos Now to over a dozen POS providers to help us better understand where the software stands out and where it falls short.

Epos Now FAQs

Yes. Epos Now is a good option for small to midsize companies in the retail and hospitality industries. The software is easy to set up and the interface is intuitive, making it easy to train your employees. The company offers the hardware and software you need to accept customer payments, manage your inventory and run your business.
Epos Now's website states that the software starts at $39 per month but doesn't provide much more information than that. The company's website isn't very transparent about pricing, so it's hard to get a sense of how much you'll pay to use the service.
No. There is no built-in integration to make Epos Now work with Square. However, you can switch from one platform to the other easily and you may be able to make these platforms work together by setting up a Zapier automation.

Overall Value

We recommend Epos Now for …

  • Retail stores, restaurants and hotels.
  • Businesses in search of a POS system that integrates with third-party apps.
  • Companies that want to use third-party POS hardware.

We don’t recommend Epos Now for …

  • Anyone looking for transparent pricing options.
  • Businesses that aren’t willing to pay for ongoing customer support.
